Still a way to go but it's getting there...

Thursday, December 14, 2006

When I find spare time now I am starting to push myself to get more of my own stuff done, this is a concept sketch I am doing for Marcello's Diabla comic. The character appeals to me for many reasons but I like that I can put my slant of the horned head into it. The rest of the picture will depict a large graffiti of a chinese dragon coming out of the wall poised to grab the central characters oh and as I look at this I realize I have forgotten to draw in the guitar slung at her back. I actually prefer the sketch on the left at this stage and might re do the pencil with a smother style once the full colour image is finished.

Soooo... what are the worms doing again? illustrations for Gross out page in K-Zone.

I was contracted to Art direct K-Zone magazine for about 4-5 months, the southern hemispheres top kids mag. It was interesting to say the least... I'm the guy with the Wolvie claws... hey I'm a comic nerd how could I resist?

A comic for 'Total Girl' magazine...

While I'm in the black and white mood, I'll put this up. A job for a talented young director Luke Baker who needed storyboards and style boards for a Sony video clip. I originally made it into the video but I think I forgot to cover the VB logo on my beer can and I got cut out... at least that's what Luke tells me.

The final pic had the knife taken out as it was for a tv cooking show and they didn't want to send the wrong message, fair enough but I kinda liked it like this.. dose this mean I'm a bad person mum?

This job was a done as a 12 sec animation for channel 10's 'Rove live' back in 2005.

Whilst working in-house at Pacific Magazines as a designer, I was fortunate enough to get a few freelance illustration jobs this one was for Girlfriend magazine.

Hello, I figured I'd clean out the closet a bit first and air out some old work. This is from back before computers replaced my pencil and paper and I was using good old coloured pencil and airbrush...

I don't know who's crazy idea it was that these guys should be the vessel of childhood humor, they scared the crap out of me more than shadows or dad's songs first thing in the morning

Back again, only a 15 minutes spent on this but getting there. I'll put up some published work over the next few days and leave the sketches for a while...

Wednesday, October 04, 2006

Here's the next installment. I might have to take a vote (as soon as someone actually discovers this page) because my original intention was to keep the hair flat with no detail but I'll keep going in this direction to see what happens and put both up for comparison.

I'm pretty busy at the moment with a variety of jobs both design and illustration but I've decided to find some time even if it's 15 min a day to get into more photoshop work. I've recently been inspired by a new friend of mine from Argentina Carlos, (a link to his site is on the right) and on one of his pages is a video of him drawing from scratch one of his masterpieces, the tutorials are about 150 meg but well worth the download.
So this is the piece I am going to work on and I will post each section as I do it...this could be a long journey so I will put up a few others so you don't get too bored of the same thing.

...Ok one more and then I start working...

Another of the girls. That's enough for today, back to work Adam

I was going to post a bunch of old sketches from my sketchbook but wouldn't you know it I stored them away in a far off dark place last week, so I guess i'll have to start sketching again. This is probably a good thing, everything I have been working on has been digital lately it will be good to replace the illumination of the imac for real sunshine and start a new sketch book... I'll post them as I do them for those of you poking your nose in here now and then.
This is the kind of stuff I used to do in my sketch book

I've been cleaning out the house and I found a bunch of old sketches from high school that aren't as bad as I thought they were at the time, gotta love teenage confidence. This is a picture from when I was 16 or 17 based on a comic I used to read called Black Orchid.

Here's another, these were done when fashion design was riding the western wagon

I did a few concept sketches for a fantastic Aussie label called Yokii, check out his stuff when you can.
These didn't make it but seeing as my girlfriend went to all the trouble of posing for me they might as well get seen somewhere.

I'm going to throw up a few sketches first to get started. This one kind of reminds me of an old TV character I grew up with called Worzel Gummidge
Hello good people, thank you for taking the time to view my blog.
I call my self smart artist... chameleon would probably be more apt as my favorite thing to do for illustration/design or music, is adapt and draw out the key elements to successfully complete a job.
I'm fortunate to have made some very talented friends who if they haven't got there own blog up, I will shortly convince them to do so and will provide a link to there pages for you.
I hope you enjoy whatever it is I decide to put up here and if you are an artist/musician or potential client feel free to contact me any time to chat.
